Zoster >> Chickenpox and Shingles
The
Herpes Zoster strain of herpes is directly related to the
cause of chickenpox and shingles - if the virus has a reoccurring
outbreak. Once infected with Zoster herpes, the virus lies
dormant in the nerve tracts from the spine. If the virus
is activated, the virus travels through the nerve tracts
and usually causes pain or a burning sensation. After about
2-3 days, a rash-like skin irritation of small, red blisters
will begin to develop.. -
See: zoster and other
herpes pictures. This rash will become
fully developed within 3-5 days. The blisters will then
erupt, leaving small ulcers, which crust over and begin
to heal. The crusted blisters begin to fall off in 2-3 weeks.
The virus is contagious through direct contact for people
who have never had chickenpox before. The majority of infected
individuals are young children and people above the age
of 60. For herpes zoster medication, Valtrex
and Acyclovir are
most often prescribed.

Zoster Prescription medicine and Advice
For
Herpes Zoster and treatment for its symptoms
we suggest Valtrex
or Acyclovir.
These two herpes prescription medications can be used to
lessen the duration of the outbreak, and reduce pain and
possible complications caused by the virus. The use of both
Valtrex and Acyclovir is best when taken within 24 hours
of the first sign of a painful sensation, before the onset
of reddened skin. Cool wet compresses applied to the skin
can reduce pain and itching. Bed rest is highly suggested
until fever resolves. Skin should be kept clean with soap
and water. Disposable items should be discarded and non-disposable
items should be disinfected before re-use. The infected
individual should also be isolated during the oozing blister
period of the outbreak, so as not to infect others.
