Genital
herpes or Herpes Simplex Virus Two (HSV2) is one of the
most difficult to control viruses and has been existent
in mankind for thousands of years. Genital herpes is a viral
infection that is sexually transmitted and genital
herpes symptoms may begin as visible small groups of
inflamed and often painful blisters on the skin around the
infected area. Genital herpes can also be transmitted sexually
during the dormant or latency period of the disease via
asymptomatic viral shedding - this is when there are no
visible signs of the infection. Genital herpes has greater
significance in women and HSV2 has clinical ties to the
development of cancer of the cervix. In pregnant
women with genital herpes, it is sometimes suggested,
that the newborn is delivered by cesarean (c-section) so
as not to infect the child to the virus.
Genital
Herpes Outbreaks and Herpes Treatment
Once
infected with herpes, the virus hides in nerve cells in
the body where antibodies cannot get to it. The herpes virus
can remain dormant here and outbreaks can reoccur from once
a year to as frequent as every few weeks. Reoccuring genital
herpes outbreaks can be brought on by a number of things
such as fatigue, sunburn, mechanical irritation and menstruation.
Studies show that reoccurring genital herpes outbreaks are
generally less severe and shorter in duration for men in
comparison to women. Genital
